TX Plateau off-grid home
We have a piece of land on a higher elevation plateau almost ten acres large. It gets so hot, that I almost passed out walking around the perimeter of it. One time, we camped out there in a tent and noticed that it gets windy up there. When it storms, you feel like you can easily get hit by lightning, since it is that much closer to the sky and completely flat. However, on a clear night the stars are that much brighter. Since this is an off-grid site, we wouldn't be able to get running water out there and wouldn't have electric and gas connectivity.
What we want to build for a home out here, is what looks like a cabin that you can go to for camping above ground, but below ground, we'd like to have a huge underground dooms-day bunker for storage and emergency supplies. We really need a place where we can securely store items without the possibility of anyone breaking in and stealing anything, and it would also be a safe place to stay in case of a major national or nuclear crisis. The cabin part on the surface would have to be well air conditioned and insulated. I would have an outhouse installed outside, since there's no running water for a regular toilet. Hopefully one day we can hire landscapers to dig that deep hole for the bunker and outhouse.
We also want this off-grid home to have a solar paneled roof, and add a wind turbine outside to take advantage of the wind energy. We also might need a lightning pole so that it strikes there during a storm instead of us if we're standing outside.
Finally, we want this site to be like an observatory, where we can go star-gazing with a telescope and look at the stars, moon, and planets. I'm thinking we'd have to add an extension to the cabin, which could be an outdoor patio that is a comfortable space to go out at night and stargaze.
Where are we on this project? Well, we already bought a generator. However, our next step is to save up $1000 to get the land officially surveyed so that we can prove to people we legally own that land. One time, we were driving up there, and the sheriff we ran into didn't believe us when we said our land was located up on the mesa. We visited the land office in sierra blanca, and they reconfirmed to us that we were in fact at the correct location before.
This is what out little cabin home might look like if we can afford to get the materials and hire builders to bring everything this far away from the city.
A lightning rod on the cabin would be a safety measure.

Solar panels for energy, but preferably attached to the roof. I'm not sure which is better, but having it separate from the roof is also something we'd consider.
take advantage of the wind energy at a higher elevation,
an outhouse,
Here's an idea we have as a fallout shelter underneath the cabin on the plateau.
The skies are so clear, I can't wait to take my first telescope out one day to see everything clearly on the plateau.
